RIUDAVETS, the brand of Menorcan sandals, or albarcas, with more than 50 years presence in the market, and FernandezCoca, the illustrator with an original, provocative mind, have joined forces to give your feet a real fiesta.
FiestaforFeet.co.uk is the fruit of collaboration between the brand,Riudavetsand the well-known designer, with an original, provocative mind, Antonio Fernández-Coca, nace FiestaDePies.com. These two specialists in their fields have created a new range of albarcas; on sale from summer 2008.
Fernández-Coca has created a series of original illustrations, full of colour and life. Filling sheets of leather with images, these are then cut at random so that the strip of leather covering each albarca differs every time.
As a result, it will be a real challenge to find two pairs of albarcas that are identical. Those wearing FiestaforFeet.co.uk will be quick to affirm that no one else has a pair of albarcas exactly the same as theirs.
A project born in Menorca, in the Balearic Islands, these albarcas can hardly ignore the water that surrounds them. As such, the first collection at FiestaDePies.comis a homage to the crystal clear waters lapping up on the shores of its home, with illustrations and names reminding us of our first dip in the sea: splas!; plof y shap shap.
These albarcas are filled with images of real, and not so real creatures, that can be found under the waves.
José Riudavets SL takes its responsibilities with the environment seriously. The company has always given life to old tyres – recycling them as the sole of rustic albarcas, while the sandals themselves are known for their durability. In addition, the company uses recycled paper in their office and their albarcas are manufactured in Spain, keeping air freight and consequent greenhouse gas emissions to a minimum, in an attempt to make the company’s ecological footprint as small as possible. These and many other steps are taken to try to preserve the environment, without compromising on quality in each pair of albarcas.
With FiestaforFeet.co.uk, Riudavets Riudavets has also kept the environment in mind, with simple but effective actions, such as the design of a brightly coloured shoebox made to last, so that it can be reused to keep letters, felt tips pens, photos … anything.
Fernández-Coca is also involved in design and publicity projects that work to defend the environment (such as a glass recycling campaign, Reciclavidrio.com, and with energy company, Union Fenosa), as well as for social projects (including illustrations for a children’s ward at several Spanish hospitals with the Foundation CurARTE, part of the McCann group; work with a UNICEF campaign and Spain’s Post Office in 2006).
